1940 – 1945 – MBB Block (Malone-Broomfield Block). In 1945, this block contained: The Adorable Gown Shop, Princeton Meat Market, Princeton Market on the main floor. Upstairs: National Selective Service offices, J.D. Butler’s dental offices, two lawyers offices (T.B. Hooper and A.D.C. Washington), and the Princeton office of the Campbell Construction Co. and an apartment. Adjacent to the MBB block was the Elite Beauty Shop, Bud’s Meat Market (apartment above), C.V. Prosser’s Men’s Store, and the Dominion Cafe.
1911 – 1940 – “old” A.E. Howse block. The Star mentions a “Howse block” as early as 1907 but in 1911, John Knudson, contractor, built a large two-storey building on the corner of Harold Avenue and Bridge Street “adjoining the store of the A.E. Howse Co., Ltd.” This new building was slated to house Eastern Townships Bank and a store, with offices and apartments on the second floor.
